How Recruiting Actually Works
More than 90% of D1 coaches cite travel-team relationships as their primary recruiting source. Showcase events (in the style of well-known national circuits) are central to this. They exist specifically to put players in front of concentrated scout and college-coach attention in a short window, separate from regular-season travel ball.
NCAA Participation Odds
Roughly 8.8% of high school baseball players go on to compete in the NCAA at any division. About 2.7% reach Division I specifically.
The NCAA-to-Pro Math: Baseball's Standout Stat
Baseball has the highest NCAA-to-major-league conversion rate of any major team sport, at roughly 4.9% (452 NCAA student-athletes drafted in 2025, against an estimated draft-eligible pool of roughly 9,240). This is meaningfully higher than men's basketball (about 1.0%). The honest framing: once a player reaches the NCAA level in baseball specifically, their odds of a professional opportunity are genuinely better than in most other sports, but clearing that initial 8.8% NCAA bar is still the hard part.
Scholarship Reality
Baseball is an equivalency sport, not a headcount sport. Scholarships are typically partial awards, not guaranteed full rides. Always ask for the dollar amount, not just a percentage.
