The True Cost of Travel Sports Calculator

Pick a sport and a competitive level to see the real planning range, and the hidden costs that sit on top of it.

This isn't a magic formula. It looks up the directional cost range we've researched for each sport and level, and is honest about everything that range does not include, rather than folding it all into one falsely precise total.

How This Works

Most cost estimates for travel sports quote registration fees only. This calculator is built around what families actually spend, including the line items that rarely appear in club marketing materials: travel and hotels, tournament entry fees, uniforms and equipment, private coaching, and sport-specific gear that must be replaced as players grow. The figures used as baseline inputs come from the Aspen Institute's Project Play research, parent-reported cost data, and sport-specific reporting compiled for this site. No club has paid to influence these figures. The ranges reflect real family spending, not promotional estimates.

How to Read Your Result

Your result is an annual estimate based on typical spending patterns for your sport and participation level. Actual costs vary by region, club, tournament schedule, and how much private coaching your child receives. Use this number as a realistic planning floor, not a ceiling. Most families who track their spending find the real number lands above their initial estimate. If your result surprises you, that reaction is common and expected. The gap between what families expect to spend and what they actually spend is one of the most consistent findings in youth sports research. This calculator exists to close that gap before you commit, not after.

We don't rank clubs. We teach you to read them.

These are directional planning ranges based on cost research across multiple sources, not precise figures. Actual costs vary by region and program. See each sport's full cost page for more detail.
